Auditions: HARVEY! A Pulitzer Prize-Winning Comedy
Winneshiek Players is thrilled to announce auditions for the classic, heartwarming comedy, HARVEY! We’re looking for enthusiastic people to join us both on stage and behind the scenes for this delightful production.
Thursday, December 12th | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Friday, December 13th | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Preparation: No monologue required—auditions will be cold readings from the script.
About the Show
Synopsis: Elwood P. Dowd is a kind, charming man whose best friend is Harvey—an invisible, six-foot-tall rabbit (or pooka). When Elwood’s social-climbing sister, Veta Louise Simmons, tries to commit him to a sanitarium to save her family’s reputation, a comical case of mistaken identity leads to Veta being committed instead! This Pulitzer Prize-winning play is a brilliant, funny, and touching look at sanity, friendship, and the joy of simply being pleasant.
Casting Needs:
We are seeking a total of 11 actors to fill the cast:
6 Male Roles (Ages 20s to 60s)
5 Female Roles (Ages 20s to 60s)
Beyond the Stage:
We also desperately need people for all off-stage roles! If you love theater but not the spotlight, we need you for:
Technical Crew (Stage Management, Lights/Sound, Set Build)
Front-of-House (Ushers, Concessions, Box Office)

Rehearsal times will be set after casting to best accommodate the finalized schedule.

Anyone who ever wanted to act, from those with no experience to the most seasoned actor, is welcome on our stage. Part of what makes Winneshiek successful is the diversity of our participants. Beginning with auditions and ending with the final curtain call, the production team and staff are there to help. Many novices worry about learning all the lines or succumbing to stage fright. Don’t let that stop you! During the weeks of rehearsals, your role and character will become second nature!
What type of auditions do you hold?
- Open auditions, welcoming all levels of experience.
How often are auditions held?
- Auditions are typically held 8-10 weeks before the opening night of each production. Dates are posted on our website and social media when our season is announced.
Do I need to prepare anything?
- Each show is different.
- Plays generally require cold readings, and script segments are available for those who wish to familiarize themselves with the show in advance.
What should I wear?
- Come as you are!
